Plaid Design Tutorial
1. Pick 4 different colors. (The example uses black, gray, red & green). You will need 3 strands of black, 2 strand of gray, 1 strand of red, and 1 strand of green.
2. Align string, fold in half, and tie knot ½ inch from fold forming a loop. Use scissors and cut off 1 strand of red and green each (leaving 1 of each on the bracelet)
3. Attach your ½ inch loop to MYFBM under the butterfly clip.
4. This pattern has 12 strings and My Friendship Bracelet Maker has enough holders for only 10 strings. This means you will have 2 loose strings at each end, one to the left of slot 1 and one to the right of slot 10. The strings hanging loose will be referred as #0 and #11. Separate strings by placing one string per slot. Note: Use the same color in slots 0,2,4,6,8 & 10 (black), slots 3,,7,9 & 11 (gray), slot 1(red) and slot 5 (green). This will align the colors of your bracelet pattern.
Row 1:
5. To begin, take string 0 and make right hand double knot with string 1. String 0 will now be in slot 1.
6. Take string 2 and make a right hand double knot with string 3. String 2 will now be in slot 3.
7. Take string 4 and make a right hand double knot with string 5. String 4 will now be in slot 5.
8. Take string 6 and make a right hand double knot with string 7. String 6 will now be in slot 7.
9. Take string 8 and make a right hand double knot with string 9. String 8 will now be in slot 9.
10. Take string 10 and make a right hand double knot with string 11. String 10 will now be in slot 11.
Row 2:
11. Take string 2 and make a left hand double knot with string 1. String 2 will now be in slot 1.
12. Take string 4 and make a left hand double knot with string 3. String 4 will now be in slot 3.
13. Take string 6 and make a left hand double knot with string 5. String 6 will now be in slot 5.
14. Take string 8 and make a left hand double knot with string 7. String 8 will now be in slot 7.
15. Take string 10 and make a left hand double knot with string 9. String 10 will now be in slot 9.
16. At this point you have completed one rotation of the pattern. Repeat steps 5-15.
17. Once you bracelet is long enough to fit your wrist use strings 0-5 to make one braid, tying a knot at the end. Then use strings 6-11 to create another braid, tying a knot at the end of that braid. These two braided strands will be used to tie on your friendship bracelet.
18. Unclip your friendship bracelet from the butterfly clip and cut off the extra string after the knot on your braids. Your new plaid friendship bracelet is now ready to wear or share!
