Large Butterfly Design Tutorial

1. Pick 4 different colors. (The example uses orange, black, lime green & purple). You will need 1 strand of orange, 1 strand of black, 3 strands of lime green & 1 strand of purple.

2. Align string, fold in half, and tie knot ½ inch from fold forming a loop.

3. Attach your ½ inch loop to MYFBM under the butterfly clip.

4. This pattern uses a total of 12 strings which exceeds the amount that your MYFBM will hold. You will have 1 string loose on the left hand side referred to as string #0 & one loose string on the right hand side referred to as string #11. Separate strings by placing one string per slot. Note: Use the same color in slots 0 & 11 (orange – hanging loose on the outer edges), 1, 3, 5, 6, 8 & 10 (lime green), slots 2 &9 (purple) & slots 4 & 7 (black).

5. To begin, take string#1 (green) and make a left hand double knot with string #0 (orange). String #1 (green) will now be in slot 0 (hanging loose on the outside left edge).

6. Take string #3 (green) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #2 (purple). String #3 (green) will stay in slot 3.

7. Take string #4 (black) and make a right hand double knot with string #5 (green). String #4 (black) will now be in slot 5.

8. Take string #7 (black) and make a left hand double knot with string #6 (green). String #7 (black) will now be in slot 6.

9. Take string #8 (green) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #9 (purple). String #8 (green) will stay in slot 8.

10. Take string #10 (green) and make a right hand double knot with string #11 (orange). String #10 (green) will snow be in slot 11(hanging loose on the right edge).

11. Take string #3 (green) and make a right hand double knot with string #4 (green). String #3 (green) will now be in slot 4.

12. Take string #6 (black) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #5 (black). String #6 (black) will stay in slot 6.

13. Take string #8 (green) and make a left hand double knot with string #7 (green). String #8 (green) will now be in slot 7.

14. Take string #5 (black) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #4 (green). String #5 (black) will stay in slot 5.

15. Take string #6 (black) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #7 (green). String #6 (black) will stay in slot 6.

16. Take string #6 (black) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #5 (black). String #6 (black) will stay in slot 6.

17. Take string #1 (orange) and make 3 right hand double knots. One each, on string #2 (purple), string #3 (green) & string #4 (green). String #1 (orange) will now be in slot 4.

18. Take string #4 (orange) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #5 (black). String #4 (orange) will stay in slot 4.

19. Take string #10 (orange) and make 3 left hand double knots. One each, on string #9 (purple), string #8 (green) & string #7 (green). String #10 (orange) will now be in slot 7.

20. Take string #7 (orange) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #6 (black). String #7 (orange) will stay in slot 7.

21. Take string #1 (purple) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #0 (green). String #1 (purple) will stay in slot 1.

22. Take string #1 (purple) and make a right hand double knot with string #2 (green). String #1 (purple) will now be in slot 2.

23. Take string #2(purple) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #3 (green). String #2 (purple) will stay in slot 2.

24. Take string #10 (purple) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #11 (green). String #10 (purple) will stay in slot 10.

25. Take string #10 (purple) and make a left hand double knot with string #9 (green). String #10 (purple) will now be in slot 9.

26. Take string #9 (purple) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #8 (green). String #9 (purple) will stay in slot 9.

27. Take string #0 (green) and make a right hand double knot with string #1 (green). String #0 (green) will now be in slot 1.

28. Take string #2 (purple) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #1 (green). String #2 (purple) will stay in slot 2.

29. Take string #4 (orange) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #3 (green). String #4 (orange) will stay in slot 4.

30. Take string #5 (black) and make a right hand double knot with string #6 (black). String #5 (black) will now be in slot 6.

31. Take string #7 (orange) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #8 (green). String #7 (orange) will stay in slot 7.

32. Take string #10 (green) and make a right hand double knot with string #11 (green). String #10 (green) will now be in slot 11 (hanging loose on the outside right edge).

33. Take string #9 (purple) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #10 (green). String #9 (purple) will stay in slot 9.

34. Take string #0 (green) and make a right hand double knot with string #1 (green). String #0 (green) will now be in slot 1.

35. Take string #2 (purple) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #3 (green). String #2 (purple) will stay in slot 2.

36. Take string #2 (purple) and make a left hand double knot with string #1 (green). String #2 (purple) will now be in slot 1.

37. Take string #1 (purple) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #0 (green). String #1 (purple) will stay in slot 1.

38. Take string #4 (orange) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #5 (black). String #4 (orange) will stay in slot 4.

39. Take string #4 (orange) and make 3 left hand double knots. One each, on string #3 (green), string #2 (green) & string #1 (purple). String #4 (orange) will now be in slot 1.

40. Take string #10 (green) and make a right hand double knot with string #11 (green). String #10 (green) will now be in slot 11 (hanging loose on the outside right edge).

41. Take string #9 (purple) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #8 (green). String #9 (purple) will stay in slot 9.

42. Take string #9 (purple) and make a right hand double knot with string #10 (green). String #9 (purple) will now be in slot 10.

43. Take string #10 (purple) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #11 (green). String #10 (purple) will stay in slot 10.

44. Take string #7 (orange) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #6 (black). String #7 (orange) will stay in slot 7.

45. Take string #7 (orange) and make 3 right hand double knots. One each, on string #8 (green), string #9 (green) & string #10 (purple). String #7 (orange) will now be in slot 10.

46. Take string #5 (black) and make a right hand double knot with string #6 (black). String #5 (black) will now be in slot 6.

47. Take string #5 (black) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #4 (green). String #5 (black) will stay in slot 5.

48. Take string #6 (black) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #7 (green). String #6 (black) will stay in slot 6.

49. Take string #5 (black) and make a right hand double knot with string #6 (black). String #5 (black) will now be in slot 6.

50. Take string #8 (green) and make 2 left hand double knots. One each, on string #7 (green) & string #6 (black). String #8 (green) will now be in slot 6.

51. Take string #3 (green) and make 3 right hand double knots. One each, on string #4 (green), string #5 (black) & string #6 (green). String #3 (green) will now be in slot 6.

52. Take string #8 (green) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #9 (purple). String #8 (green) will stay in slot 8.

53. Take string #11 (green) and make a left hand double knot with string #10 (orange). String #11 (green) will now be in slot 10.

54. Take string #7 (black) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #8 (green). String #7 (black) will stay in slot 7.

55. Take string #10 (green) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #9 (purple). String #10 (green) will stay in slot 10.

56. Take string #0 (green) and make a right hand double knot with string #1 (orange). String #0 (green) will now be in slot 1.

57. Take string #3 (green) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #2 (purple). String #3 (green) will stay in slot 3.

58. Take string #1 (green) and make a single right single left hand knot with string #2 (purple). String #1 (green) will stay in slot 1.

59. Take string #4 (black) and make a single left single right hand knot with string #3 (green). String #4 (black) will stay in slot 4.

60. At this point your pattern will now repeat itself. Repeat steps 5-59 to continue the pattern until your bracelet is long enough to fit your wrist.

61. Once you bracelet is long enough to fit your wrist take strings from the slots 0, 1, 2 & 3 in your left hand and the strings from slots 8, 9, 10 & 11 in your right hand and braid with the remaining 4 center strings.

62. Take the braided strings and tie two basic knots at the end of your friendship bracelet.

63. Unclip your friendship bracelet from the clip and cut off the excess braided section. Your friendship bracelet is ready to wear or share!
